daniel jenkins studios and gardens are home to the most unique and distinguished whimsical windvanes and sculptures for gardens in australia
all of the work can be viewed in a native bush garden setting at my metung studios

the MeMe series.  these are the marquettes for a series of figures which will stand about 2.4 - 4M (8-12ish feet) tall each.   the heads turn in the wind.  the bodies are androgenous, no specific back or front made so that when the heads turn they are never on back to front.  all works are repousse hollow and patinated copper.

as standalone objects these three original MeMes are roughly 650mm, 380mm and 450mm tall

the WoBe MeMes are a new form, a new shape with longer arms outstretched in a welcoming and still protective gesture.  their heads are fixed in these marquettes however would turn as finshed public works.  these two WoBes stand approximately 620mm and 470mm tall.

some of my more established work is represented by the whimsical objects, animal-like windvanes, ladder forms and urns

the chair is one of the ladder sculptures.  all hollow copperformed, the cushion seat is filled with washed sand to form a comfortable perch for short periods of time.

the house and studio in its setting.  and not so much my office but where i spend a lot of time thinking...

in short, what i make predominantly is Windvanes or outdoor works which have a kinetic element, things that turn in the wind.

i work in hollow copper, two sides cut the same shape, hollow formed into a large sandbag with hammers that i make, the formed edges soldered together and a heavily guarded (by Beau the Boxer) top-secret alchemic mottled patina mixture applied in layers onto the copper over a period of weeks.  this is sometimes a slow process but distinctive, safe for birds and gardens and can withstand the weather for years.  the oldest ones i have made go back to 1984 and are still flying.

if you are in Melbourne CBD there are four of my larger works made in 1992 - Swanston Street Melbourne at the Burke Street Mall...look up!

most of what i do is to commission.  i prefer to discuss your needs, see the space, garden, into which the work will go, design to your needs, often communicating ideas and drawings via email, then discuss budget and timeline.  all the pieces are one-offs.  i do work to a design theme from time to time but i don't make from patterns, making each drawn shape on the metal a definite one-off.

thanks for visiting the site and enjoy the work; and please feel free to visit the garden where examples of the works are displayed.
